The conventional blood processing method was developed based on international best practices, and is continually reviewed and updated in collaboration with international partners.
The Premium procedure for the cryopreservation of blood stem cells allows an additional fraction of hematopoietic stem cells to be recovered, increasing the number of cryopreserved cells by a maximum of 15%. Up to 99% of cells collected at birth can be preserved using this method.
Tissue Processing Methods
The Standard tissue processing method was developed by Stemlab to ensure a minimum amount of manipulation of the samples. This technique allows mesenchymal stem cells to be isolated in the future, meaning that it may be possible to use cells on multiple occasions for different purposes, such as for treating graft versus host disease and autoimmune diseases, like type 1 diabetes.
The Premium processing method for the cryopreservation of mesenchymal cells from umbilical cord tissue is based on a process patented by the North American laboratory Auxocell. It is used by some of the largest stem cell banks in the world and exclusively by Stemlab in Europe. This method allows umbilical cord tissue stem cells to be made available immediately if they are needed for treatment purposes.
